The Godzilla vs Kong novelization has a lot of stuff not in the theatrical film:

-scene of Godzilla's rescue of the titan Na Kika/Kraken (from the Dominion prequel comic) but from the perspective of the human terrorists that get slaughtered (we also got clarification on a matter: Na Kika has been stated to be male and female at different points, and here it clarifies that Na Kika can change gender at will)
-Alan Jonah sells TWO Ghidorah skulls to Apex. (Where he got two is never explained, so plot hole there. There was only ONE head left after KOTM. Unless he meant he split the one skull into two pieces.) It's implied he was super desperate for money because he's wanted by every major government on Earth and staying one step ahead of the law has been a major drain on his resources. Its also implied his group of eco-terrorists has shrunk considerably due to either being captured by authorities or breaking off to form their own groups.
-scenes with Lind's brother right before the doomed expedition to the Hollow Earth. Lind's story arc is learning how to be more decisive and brave now that his brother whom he admired so much is gone.
-scene of Kong rescuing Jia when the storm engulfs the island.
-confirmation that all of the Titans are alive and fine, Big G just commanded them to hunker down in their lairs and sleep for awhile.
-Bernie's wife used to work for Apex but then quit suddenly and unexpectedly, then died in a car crash not long after. While going through her things, he found a note his wife left that seemed to indicate she caught wind of the shady shit Apex was up to; his grief combined with his suspicions that the car crash wasn't random but a targeted assassination to keep her from speaking the truth causes him to go down the conspiracy theory rabbit hole and do his undercover work at Apex.
-Apex is aware of Bernie's podcast, they let him be because they don't see him as a threat, Simmons even jokes about how he's a huge fan of the show
-Apex helped work with the US government to build the Oxygen Destroyer prototype from KOTM; the program was ended for multiple reasons, and its implied even if it wasn't building more just isn't in the cards because of how difficult/time-consuming/resource draining it is to make one.
-Ren Serizawa is given a lot of motivation and backstory, but its basically the "massive daddy issues/mortal men surpassing the gods" thing you're expecting. Ren even considers Godzilla to be like an older brother his dad loved more, the Abel to his Cain.
-Madison has PTSD and nightmares about Ghidorah which she's seeing a therapist about, she's considered a freak at school; she wants to help her dad with Monarch but he insists on her having as much of a normal life as possible.
-Monarch still has the Argo, and Monarch's new director (Lance Reddick's character) gets attention
-even though Skull Island's ecosystem is gone, Monarch has samples of seeds, spores, eggs, and cell tissue of most of the plant and animal life in storage
-When Monarch moved Kong into the bio-dome and later onto the ship, they used an odorless, water-soluble gas developed by sequencing his DNA (a technique the worked well on the other mammal titan Behemoth) while he was asleep to ensure they could safely complete the task before he awoke.
-its mentioned that the Hollow Earth entrance in Antartica is really close to where Ghidorah was frozen in the ice; one character speculates Ghidorah may have wanted to enter to Hollow Earth upon discovering its existence (one can imagine Ghidorah would have loved to feed on that power source)
-Mechagodzilla does get hijacked by Ghidorah, but the novel implies its just Ghidorah's most basic, primal self; most of his identity and memories are gone, all that's left is rage and hate and the joy of being alive to bring death to others
-Ren doesn't just get electrocuted to death when Ghidorah ASSUMES DIRECT CONTROL, Ghidorah eats his mind one piece at a time, slowly enough for him to appreciate the full horror and agony of what's happening to him before finally kicking the bucket.
-The Iwi tribe used to live with the Kongs in the Hollow Earth, which they call the "Long Ago Below".
-We learn that the true name of the Skullcrawlers is "Halakrah" which means "Persistent Enemy" when directly translated from the Iwi language. But to the Iwi, there's a foe to them and the Kongs greater than the Skullcrawlers: Godzilla's species, which is known as "Zo-zla-halawa" which means "Great Eternal Enemy". But "Zo-zla-halawa" can be used not just in the plural to signify the whole species, but also in the singular, to denote a specific individual, which is our Godzilla. Turns out Big G was such a great killer of Kongs, he's a terrifying boogieman in their mythology, a dreaded god of destruction "who swallowed a star" and "throws rays of the star out his mouth to burn things". Generations of Kongs went to battle the G-Man, and they all failed, unable to defeat him. Big G kicked the Kong species' asses so hard they and the Iwi were forced to leave the Hollow Earth and go to Skull Island in exile.
-According to both Godzilla's memories and the Iwi mythology, it was the Kongs that started the war. The Iwi paint the Kongs as being justified in their actions, but their mythology is obviously biased and distorted by time. Godzilla, who was there, remembers it as the Kongs wanting to become the new Alpha Species and be dominant, and tried to overthrow the current holders. Its mentioned that a "taboo" was broken that really escalated the conflict; no specific details are given but it's implied it was the Kongs' learning to harvest the Hollow Earth energy by using the dorsal plates of Godzillas and making the axes.
-When the Godzillas and the Kongs went to war, their human worshippers went to war with them.
-Its implied that in the war with the Kongs, the Godzilla species, already much smaller in number since the Permian Period, suffered big losses; they won the war but their numbers went down considerably, which when combined with Muto attacks and Ghidorah, inevitably lead to Big G being the only one left, which is why Godzilla has such contempt for the Kongs. (And probably why he didn't lift a finger to help the Kongs from being slaughtered by Skullcrawlers on Skull Island)
-Godzilla's rivalry with the Kongs is more ancient than his rivalry with Ghidorah; though Godzilla hates Ghidorah above all others, the Kongs are second on his shit list.
-Godzilla was aware of Kong on Skull Island the whole time, but was begrudgingly content to leave him alone as long as he stayed on Skull Island, essentially living out a prison sentence; the moment he left it was considered an invasion of his territory and a sign the war was to continue and he was free to kill him. Likewise, Kong could sense Godzilla whenever he swam near Skull Island, but never cared as long as Godzilla left him alone.
-Godzilla considers the humans that were helping Kong as having "turned against him" so he has no problems attacking them during the sea battle, or the ones he felt were responsible for bringing back Ghidorah/making Mechagodzilla and interfering with him from ending the threat once and for all.
-Even though Jia is understandably Team Kong, and has been raised on the mythology demonizing Godzilla, even she feels sorry for the "Bad Lizard" when she finds out that he, like her and Kong, are the last of their kinds.

And seen it. Much like with GvK I had to go through... less than legitimate... means because we have no HBO Max, and Sky was in an hurry to put in pay-per-view only the guddamn Snyder Cut apparently.

So... before I go into spoilers... the fights are good and the costumes and creature designs are quite neat and game-accurate. The CGI isn't cheap by any mean, but it's VERY obviously CG, and it's even more blantant considering most of the fights with non-monsters are real fights performed by real martial artists and/or by the actual actors. The story is serviceable, tho they made up a bunch of b.s. to explain the powers of the kombatants that makes them a bit like knock-off X-Men.

Now for the spoilers...

The main karakter Cole Young has dick all to do with the games. He's not Kuail Liang, unlike some rumors had him be. He's just a completely new Chosen One, made up for the film (apparently because of studio mandates) with a bit of a Rocky-ish backstory about him being a loser martial artist who's only really good at taking punches. When he gets his mystical mutant power, he becomes able to grow like a super-strong skin, like organic armor. He's the last surviving descendent of Scorpion, and he's the one who manages to summon him back to kill Sub-Zero in the climax.

The two teams of kombatants in the movie are the following: for Earthrealm we have Cole, Sonya, Jaxx, Liu Kang, Kung Lao and Kano. At first. For Outworld we have Sub-Zero, Mileena, Reptile, Natira, Kabal, Reiko (who just looks like a discount Shao Khan, hammer and everything) and Goro. Shang Tsung and Raiden basically are only there to pose dramatically for the camera and deliver exposition. By the end the whole team of Outworld is killed, but Tsung ominously exposes about "death being only another portal" and we see him retrieving the bodies of the fallen warriors, so I wouldn't be surprised if some of them were to return in a potential sequel. Definately WOULD be surprised if we just saw the last of Sub-Zero, especially. The only casualty on Earthrealm's side is Kung Lao... he gets to one shot Natira, with his hat on the ground fatality from the game, but then Shang Tsung gobbles up his soul.

To justify the presence of magic powers there's the whole stupid thing with the dragon birthmark, that means that those who have it can develop arcane powers and that those powers are unique and determined by each fighter's skills and character. So even the tech-based fighters are just... X-men essentially, like I said in the non-spoiler bits. Kano just starts to shot laser beams from one of his eyes, and Jaxx is first given some dinky steampunk-ish prostetics he's not happy with, and when his power manifests he gets the stronger and more game-accurate mecha-arms. The marking can also be "passed on" if a normal human kills a champion that has it. In fact, that's how Sonya gets her shooty energy pulse thing by the end, after she kills Kano. Oh yes, Kano being Kano of course he betrays everyone mid-film and switches sides.

The movie actually ISN'T about the MK Tournament. Well no... it IS, but in the sense that is about assembling a team of worthy champions to fight in it, before Shang Tsung's assassins kills them all so that Outworld wins by default. I kinda liked that, definately sounds like the kind of sneaky technicality Tsung would try to pull. Sub-Zero has presumably been doing that for centuries, or he has been recruited by Shang Tsung for the job at some point down the line.

Mileena does briefly go into beast mode and has the full on monster mouth look right before getting killed by Sonya.

There's a lot of little winks winks and easter eggs, of course you get your obvious one liners from the games, there's also a couple sneaky references to Kothal Khan and Nightwolf, and probably a few more that I've missed.

The climax of the movie is where things get "video game-y" in a good way: Raiden tosses all the kombatants in different places across the realms, so that Earth's new champions can defeal Outworld's ones one by one. The final fight eventually is between Scorpion, Cole and Sub-Zero, after Cole manages to summon his ancestor by spilling his blood with Hanzo's kunai (that Raiden gave him). Sub-Zero is killed by Scorpion with his klassik spit-firing fatality.

The movie ends with Raiden sending off the kombatants to recruit other champions before the real tournament begins. The final scene of the film has Cole packing his bags and going to Hollywood to seek out Jhonny Cage.

Overall I think it was a better movie than the Anderson one, and you can tell the people making it were trying to get it right, despite studio interference. Buut I'm gonna have to say that the 90s film is probably more entertaining. The perfect MK movie is probably something that has the cheese factor of the old flick and the effects and fight coreography of this new one.

Still... would not mind if we were to get a couple more of these, even if only to get a proper Shao Khan and wash away the indignity that was MK: Annhilation.

Speaking of JW:D, there's some rumored plot points starting to pop up online. Take with extra helpings of salt as per usual:

-Dinosaurs are almost everywhere now after the cloning tech became an open source for everyone. There's lots of reproducing male/female pairs in addition to the Isla Nublar survivors that were set loose/sold from Lockwood's manor and humans are forced to adjust to the new normal. The dinos are not rampaging monsters and keep to themselves for the most part, but encounters with people do happen.
-Owen and Claire are on the run with Maisie.
-InGen and its various networks finally went totally bankrupt and have been absorbed by its rival company BioSyn, now led by Dodgson, our human villain of the story.
-BioSyn is up to all kinds of experiments, one of which is developing a bio-weapon capable of wiping out all the current dinosaurs on Earth that only clones created by BioSyn can survive, to get a monopoly on the dino clone industry and start fresh.
-Dodgson’s experiments require Maisie for some reason, and she is captured.
-Owen and Claire team up with Grant, Malcolm and Sattler to rescue Maisie and stop BioSyn.
-Lowery, Barry, Franklin, Zia, and Dr. Wu all return.
-The Spinosaurus from JP3 is confirmed to have survived and returns, and battles Rexy. Rexy wins.
-After the Spino is dead, the Gigantosaurus is revealed to be the true dino villain of the story.
-Pyroraptor, Deinonychus, Dimetrodon, Therizinosaurus, and Microceratus are some of the new faces that show up.
-There’s a major setpiece in the film at a BioSyn research facility at a snow-covered mountain.
-The narrative is intended to wrap up the Jurassic Park/World plot but also set the stage for a new trilogy with new characters/themes/stories for the future.
-There's also rumors of a Jurassic Park prequel that might be in the works that would feature a younger John Hammond making the first breakthroughs with the dino cloning and setting up shop at Nublar and Sorna, leading up to the events of the first Jurassic Park film. Wether that would be in the form of a film or a tv show is unknown.

Ohh, I like pretty much all of that. Not gonna lie, after JW Fallen Kingdom I have very low expectations plot-wise, but that would be a decent way to give this new trilogy a satisfying conclusion.

Aaaand here we go. Multiple news outlets report that Legendary is in talks to plan out the continuation of the Monsterverse. Next movie is almost certainly gonna be a Kong film, some a Son of Kong film, as the agreements with Toho for the use of Godzilla and friends needs to be renegotiated. The studio is also trying to have the director of GvK to stick around to make said next movie.
