Still haven't bought anything on the Steam sale, though I really should, as nearly everything on my wish list is there. But the urge to consume is kinda restrained lately, in that I feel it, but dislike it.

Definitely getting the TW2 DLC, that's a given. Want to try Cyberpunk, now that I have the new PC, but I haven't heard word it's stable and fun yet. So P5 Strikers, Shin Megami Tensai 3 HD, or Mass Effect Legendary. I would've gotten all 3 in a frenzy of disposable income, but the SSL certification for CZ came up out of the blue for $90, so that was 2 of them right there.

For me, when it comes to Warcraft's story and lore, it peaked in the period of time of 2002-2006. Been downhill ever since.

Actually, there were some really good moments in it in the history of WoW. WotLK had a good story, overall and Legion also was really well told in its entirety. Hell, even Battle for Azeroth had really exquisite stuff with Jaina.

This, however... it's really Blizzard being shitty writers. It's so bloody obvious that now we are supposed to feel bad for Genocidal Female Undead Hitler, because she got her old personality back (which was rudimentary, at best) and AAAAAAALLLLLL has to be forgiven now.

Anyone remember the Ghost Rider movie with Nicholas Cage? In that, Ghost Rider's most powerful weapon is his Penance Stare, where he can look you in the eyes and make you feel all the pain you've ever inflicted. The main bad guy is a demon and initially this doesn't work on him because he doesn't have a soul to burn. The McGuffin at the end of the movie gives him true ultimate power, but at the same time gives him every soul from some Old West town. Which of course provided ample fodder for Ghost Rider's stare.

Now, if you're going to pull a story like "give the bad guy a soul", the least you can do is have it be part of a satifsying comeuppance.

The uproar in the World of Warcraft community is over the fate of Sylvanas Windrunner, the undead bow lady in that video. Basically, she used to be a high elf general who was killed by one of the major bad guys of the setting, Arthas (later the Lich King) and then raised as an undead banshee out of spite for having resisted him. She and a large part of the undead under his control became free-willed when he lost a part of his power and formed their own faction, The Forsaken, who were a playable race of undead in World of Warcraft. She became their leader.

The Forsaken and Sylvanas especially always were morally at best pretty ambiguous, often downright evil. Sylvanas always was at the forefront of their secret plans to develop a plague to wipe out the living completely. And then, after a succession of Warchiefs of the Horde (the larger overfaction of which the Forsaken are a part of) resigned or died, she was appointed leader of the Horde by her dying predecessor. And she used that to wage a war of extermination against the opposing faction, the Alliance, committing atrocities all over the place and wiping out the homeland of one of the major factions, the Night Elves, and genociding a large number of their race.

So, there's a very large contingent of WoW players who want her gone. Dead. Destroyed. And since she was a raid boss in the latest raid, which just came out this week, people saw a chance to be finally rid of her for good. However, there is a hardcore faction of edgelords who adore Sylvanas for being EEEEEEEVIL and a hot undead babe, who were hollering for her not to be killed off. And the (still current, not for much longer) lead writer for WoW, Steve Danuser, is one of those fanboys. Hence, instead of killing off Undead Female Hitler like she fucking deserves, the writers at WoW are trying to slip in a redemption story. Badly. And, no, I fucking won't stand for it. I unsuscribed a few months ago, both because I experienced (and am experiencing) severe MMO burnout, but just as importantly, because the writing was already on the wall back then and I made it very clear in my "why did you unsuscribe" message that this was a big factor for me.

It's a shame. There were many good times during my time with the game and I enjoyed the lore very much (the expansion Legion was very good on that side), but this is just a step too far. The writers already proved once that they are willing to let a genocidal war criminal go, only that time they did it so ham-fistedly that people still really can't believe it happened, but here people were holding out hope that they wouldn't commit the same mistake twice. Only now they've done it far worse.

I live, again.

Once I entered the NY mountains proper, and the climate appreciably changed, I felt an internal peace I normally do not. It was nice. Seeing endless trees and mountains, and hearing little but animals and leaves, soothed me in a way that the endless suburban sprawl of NJ, or the humid marshes of SC, did not. The former mostly makes me angry and anxious, the latter was unpleasant to breathe in. A thunderstorm rolled in at night, and I took the time between downpours to have a cigarillo on the porch, watching the mountaintops come in and out of focus with the clouds.

From there, went up to Lake George, NY, to visit with family. Love them dearly, but circumstances keep us apart for years at a time. Only just now discovered LG is actually a very famous tourist spot, despite being largely 1 stretch of road and some boats on the lake.

Also found out the nature of my mother's lineage. Turns out, from her side, I'm mostly French Canadian, then Italian, with a splash of Irish/German. Then pure Dutch from my father. So, given no cultural roots, "white mutt." Never expected that, honestly, given I _look_ Irish/Italian more than anything else. Suppose I should embrace my bloodline, and my love of strong cheeses, and join the Foreign Legion.

My personal rule of not trusting most restaurants to cook a steak medium rare properly if the place is not outwardly high scale, regardless of pricing, holds true. Always go medium if they're not visibly fancy, because while I can eat rare steak, eating it cold is unpleasant.

Also, I have not seen so many skinny young women in a long, long time. They actually outnumbered the 400 pounders, which is novel at this point.

Yeah, Smash Ultimate just has one last DLC character left and then it's done, according to Sakurai, and he seems pretty firm on that. So unless the next character has MAXIMUM HYPE THAT BREAKS THE INTERNET that makes it sell so well it destroys DLC sales records and causes Nintendo to change their minds and beg Sakurai for few more, then that will be the end of it.
