"AfterShock Comics has officially announced Cross to Bear, a new comic book series by Marko Stojanović and Siniša Banović that finds the infamous unidentified British serial killer Jack the Ripper in the American wild west. Cross to Bear #1 is slated to hit comic shops on Wednesday, Oct. 13. "Jack the Ripper was never caught because no one was looking for him in the Wild West... No one accept The Order," the book's official synopsis reads. "An organization made up of the descendants of Crusaders sworn to eradicate the unnatural, The Order will stop at nothing to fulfill the pledge their forefathers made, even if it means crossing the ocean or a line or two." Writer Stojanović elaborated, "The book is about Jack the Ripper fleeing to America in 1889 and heading straight to the Wild West -- because his own savagery can avoid detection at the still savage frontier. He is, however, pursued by the Order made up from the descendants of Crusaders knights set on eradicating the unnatural -- and what could be more unnatural than the first documented serial killer grabbing all the headlines and causing mass hysteria? Only thing is, these crusaders are far from their usual haunts and they'll need help from a man who severed his ties with the other at the price of abandoning his own family." Stojanović explains that Cross to Bear tackles "many themes," including "old world meeting the new one, family ties versus all the other ones, nature of power and fear, examination of extremism no matter how just the cause and of course, the danger of becoming a monster yourself as you do battle with monsters." The writer also explained his history with western stories. "I am excited about it coming out because when I was a kid during the '80s in Yugoslavia, there was a special cult of the Westerns, which our dads and grandads used to call cowboy movies," Stojanović shared. "True, we were not behind the iron curtain, unlike the neighboring countries, but from the movies that were shown on national TV, westerns came closest to what we call the action movie. And so when there was a Western on, it was a must." The writer lists Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid and The Wild Bunch as being among his favorites. Regarding the comic's artwork, Banović added, "The Cross to Bear series is the first western comic book I worked on, so I had fun studying characters and get used to drawing cowboy hats and other type of stuff we tend to see often.""

So Transformers Kingdom is out. My first impression: This... is a real mixed bag to say the least. On paper, this should have been awesome. But the execution is sloppy, rushed, and awkward. But, it does have its moments. There is fun stuff to be had, but you're going to have wade through some tedious stuff to get there. There are multiple lines and scenes ripped right from Beast Wars in here, but they don't resonate as well as they did in that show because these characters don't have seasons' worth of development and narrative momentum behind them to lend them emotional weight beyond just nostalgic "I remember that from my childhood!" feelings. The music isn't anything special but it gets the job done. The dialogue is very stilted and the voice acting is bad, especially when it comes to Beast Wars Megatron. The detail in the animation is very good though, though several action scenes lack the energy to make them pop or the choreography to make them memorable. There's some editing/camera issues on some scenes that are a little jarring. The show is at its best when it tries to do its own thing rather then re-tread old ground or play on nostalgia, and it really could have used more episodes to flesh things out.

Also, If you make a drinking game out of every time Optimus says "Forgive me" or "Its all my fault" you'll be dead before the final episode.

Unicron is the one behind everything--the war, the decay of Cybertron--all orchestrated by him manipulating things from afar, and when everyone finally learns this, its enough for all sides and factions to put their war on hold and focus on fighting the real enemy for their mutual survival. Even Starscream becomes a voice of reason when he realizes Unicron the puppet master trying to ruin the future for everyone.

The Maximals and Preds are the descendants of a future where the Allspark never makes it back to Cybertron, and they are hounded by Galvatron and Nemesis Prime on Unicron orders. BW Megs goes back in time with the Golden Disk intending on making sure Decepticon Megs changes the past by getting the Allspark and never becoming Galvatron. Galvatron and Nemesis Prime themselves also want to change their fate by manipulating the timeline, but selfishly only want to save their timeline and don't care about anyone else's. So I guess we're using Multiverse Theory when it comes to time travel.

BW Megs acts like a fanboy around Deception Megs, and while its fine at first, it does go a little too far in my opinion. Though there is a line he says during a battle with Primal then kinda implies that he's just bidding his time, willing to play the role of a servant until the opportune moment to seize power for himself, but the line is ambiguous enough that that could just be me reading into it too much.

Dinobot of course makes his brave last stand, managing to defeat both Soundwave and Deception Megs in battle to get the Matrix of Leadership before being mortally wounded by BW Megs, but he does hold out long enough to give it back to Prime. He dies with honor, but it doesn't hold a candle to his death scene in the original show, since we barely got to know him or explore his relationship with other characters.

Blackarachnia and Starscream team up, and you know how that goes. Both of them backstab each other constantly until the realize they got bigger problems.

Silverbolt isn't in this, but he is kinda alluded to when in one scene Blackarachnia has an illusion thrust upon her and she sees a silver wolf beast hunting her that scares her. So don't get your hopes up for that romance. Speaking of, here Blackarachnia flirts with Airazor and comments that Arcee is the "cute pink one" so I guess this version of the character only likes female 'bots. (And yes, there's already fanfiction and fan art for Blackarachnia x Airazor because the internet is fast and thirsty as fuck. :lol:

)

Optimus finally gets his shit together more or less and gets both the Matrix and the Allspark back and saves Cybertron. The Preds and Maximals hitch a ride onto their timeline since there's was shit and they are all that is left. They all agree that Cybertron is big enough for everyone... for now, until the threat of Unicron is dealt with. Both Megatrons are pragmatic enough to put the war on pause, but aren't giving it up entirely.

Unicron saves Galvatron and Nemesis Prime from death, and while angry at their attempts to break free of their servitude and failure to complete their orders, notes that their use of the Dead Universe to time travel gives him an idea, and it ends with Unicron about to make his move.

Saw it too... I still don't know wheter I truly liked this whole thing or not. Tho I'm leaning towards the later, tbh. And I mean the whole "trilogy", if you can even call it that...

Overall, I think I appreciated what they were trying to do with this series, but the execution was still way too much alike the Machinima stuff... overly grim, overly serious and way too slooooooooooooowwww... tho the animation was leaps and bounds better. But frankly, I've had a much better time with Transformers Cyberverse, especially after it stopped to be the Bumblebee and Windblade solo show. Which is why I have problems with the kind of open ended nature of thi thing. I don't know if a possible countinuation could stir things around, but I have my douts about that. I think I'd rather just start from scratch, and leave this be truth be told. I guess we'll see what next year will bring. Rumors are that the next toyline will go full Multiverse (like everyone and their moms' IPs) and that'll feature among the others both the still missing BW characters and stuff from TF: Prime and the japanese shows. So I have no clues how you could tie all that into a cohesive narrative for a tie-in show.

Started to watching Overlord after putting it back for so long... I wanted to watch at least one "straigh" isekai anime before going for Konosuba, just because there's not much of a point to watch a parody/comedic subversion of something you're not familiar with. And fuck me if I was going to waste time watching Sword Art Online lol

I am having a good time overall, but I can also easily see why other people might not. If it wasn't for the fact that the whole premise of the show is "guy becomes his overpowered Litch Lord from his favorite game" you could easily argue the whole thing is a massive exercise in Gary Stu-eness. Also Albeedo could use to tone down the "virgin slut" attacks a couple notches. Also also there's a lot of "N-no! It can't be!" and "I had planned for this all along!" kind of moments lol

But the animation is good, I really like the character design of the Guardians, there's some good action, and despite being an overpowered litch the main character is... kinda likable, at least in the way he really seems to care about his people, while remaining a stone cold calculating monster when dealing with others. It's dumb fun at best... but it IS fun.
