Been fiddling around with Unity. Going through a 2D tutorial, got mildly annoyed when writing the script for player controls that, of all things, you can't directly a literal constant to a Transform without setting up a temporary vector solely for the sake of assigning a variable. In layman's, it's like Unity is padding the corners of the furniture before I ever hit my head on one. Also they removed the ability to directly create Tile objects (think 2D grid, a tile is one place in the grid) at some point. The current method is more logical if thought of in human terms. If you wanted to paint a portrait, first you set up the canvas, then you get our your palette, then you apply the paints, then you paint. However, in technical terms, there could be many reasons I would want to have my paint out before I have the canvas or palette.

Still, it's neat. Hope to make a simple little something after I learn these tools. Might need one of you artists to lend a hand for spritework, heh.

So I am getting a 2060 soon, can anyone recommend any decent monitors around the 24 inch size range (desk is too small for anything bigger and I am gonna have 2).

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07L9 ... UTF8&psc=1

Picked this up on sale a few months back, was much lower than this. But it's the best one I've had. Good range, the curve is easer on the eyes, proper high refresh rate. Want to hook up my old monitors to have a dual setup, but I'm terribly lazy, and this one works great alone so far.

Looks good, gonna wait until it's discounted over here because it's currently very much not.

If desk space is an issue, you might wanna get two of those here instead and go for a bigger monitor, for a better viewing experience.

Well I eventually plan to get a bigger desk as this one I got now won't hold those very well anyway.

Plus I am more of the kind of less is more. Might have more monitors, lol.

I'm dreaming of three monitors, but with the two ultra-wides I got, that's pretty impossible. ^^

Also, if things go normally, you'll upgrade your living means at some point, so then there should be more place for bigger monitors. :)

Hey, congratulations. Having your own space, and your own routine, does wonders for the mind. At least it did for me, brief as it was. Hope it goes well!

It's what I tell myself every birthday, though I'm a fair bit younger. Hope it doesn't take until I'm 40, no offense. ;)

Well, it's "tomorrow" across the pond, so, Happy 30th Birthday, Mazder! Welcome to the big leagues! Whoooooooo!

Protip: Having a young mindset is a good thing. My dad acts like he was 20 still, guy is happy and productive despite his age.

Well, I stopped having those "I look back at myself from five years ago and realize I was a total idiot" moments around my mid-thirties, so look forward to that. ^^

Also, happy birthday, since today should be the tomorrow from your post. :D

I specifically mentioned my age to get you some motivation to go out sooner than myself and get yourself a good job.

I'll enter my one line of officiousness on the topic of "making it" and then fuck off before I wear out the welcome. The #1 way I "made it" was that I moved repeatedly. And I don't mean moved positions (though that too). I mean moved locations. Price of rent is huge, huge, huge, huge, huge variable that people often ignore. I don't think anybody here is doing this but the kind of person who stays in San Francisco paying $3000 a month to rent a garage and wondering why they can't make it just baffles the piss out of me. Likewise being somewhere with low rent but no jobs is a deathtrap. The sweet spot to be is that place which is growing but not yet swamped.

I got myself an old school Zippo lighter, just for the sake of having something neat and useful. Flipping the lid feels too good, I can see why the care instructions mention "hinge damage." Thankfully Zippo also has a lifetime warranty on all repairs. There's a good feeling in owning a tool that can outlive you with proper care. Functionally, being able to light a cigar properly will also be nice, because the shitty little Bics require more time spent relighting it than smoking.

I found a broken one from my late uncle in amongst my late grandad's things and, yeah, can confirm, even a non-smoking asthmatic like me likes the flippy clicker. :D

Too bad it's too busted to be actually used as...well....slight pyromania...but it's still a nice tactile feel.

1) You're always welcome, never feel you're not :)
2) Yeah I have no idea why people would want to stay with that high of rent with everything else on top of that seems mad.

But that's what you get for building on the coast of a desert area...and drive shit up.

I'd love to try and move a bit. Gonna really try this year to get a proper job or to reacquire my creative abilities and put them to use in getting creative work. Even if it's just a commission or two on to of actual job.

Hey, if it's a Zippo, you can probably mail to the factory in America and get repaired for free! Minus cost of shipping.

I knew people who used to smoke so it'd give them something to do with their hands. I understand the sentiment too well. Rarely smoke though, had 3-4 cigars all last year. Need to toss the ones I have left, the free humidor they came with immediately molded out, so the cigars have slowly dried out, so they're burning way too fast, despite the loss of nicotine. Hits like a truck on a non-smoker.

I'm only moving into my own place because I have to, my grandparents have a foot in the grave and I am living in one of their rooms and I have been for like all my life and since I am retired I can't take over the house as it is to expensive (I'm retired, and I'm 32, so money is going to be tight for me), not to mention needs renovations.

I want to live and die in this house, but real life says otherwise and I have to get an appartement, hopefully in my hometown so I can continue to live in somewhat peace and quiet, the idea of living in a giant city terrifies me.

I don't look forward to it, but it has to happen so I can live my life to the day I hopefully die of old age.

Still the pads on my back from you guys makes it somewhat better, I'll keep you in the know, just know it is not easy to me doing this it's hard and a reminder that most if not all of my family is going to be dead in the next 10 to 20 years (if I am lucky), after that I'm going to be alone, no girlfriend, no kids, very few friends, I'm going to be very lonely.

sorry I just have a lot on my mind and it is getting to me.

Plus it being as it is right now is a sort of good thing? Sort of a memory of it's time.
Plus it's a washington redskins one so, who knows, in 10 years it might be worth something if they change their name, even broken, lol.

Yeah, I'm not a fan of smoking, being around or watching it.
Of all the vices it's just fucking gross because you KNOW what you're doing to yourself.
Not trying to sound preachy or nothing just...urgh I can't help but not find it gross.

Went through an interesting week. I was one of those poor souls in the middle of that big snowstorm on the East Coast. 12 to 15 inches of snow. Power went out for 3 days. Internet was down until today. The highway was closed down for a time. There was more downed trees from this than all the thunderstorms and hurricanes I've ever been through. Every ten seconds you'd hear a loud crack as a tree went down or a branch broke off from the sheer weight of the ice and snow. Even if I had a truck that could handle the roads, I wouldn't have gotten far because downed trees blocked everything. No snow plows came through; the local community had to clear the snow and tree debris themselves. I had friends and acquaintances that had it far worse off than I; some not only lost their electricity for far longer but lost their water as well. I know one guy who got stuck on I-95 when it was shut down; took him forever to get home again. Managed to save the food in my fridge from going bad with coolers. Almost cracked my head open when I slipped on some ice, but I got a good workout shoveling all that snow and chopping and dragging all those tree branches.

Nice try winter, but you'll have to do better than that to conquer me!

sorry I just have a lot on my mind and it is getting to me.

I completely understand your dilemma, and I'm thankful you'll definitely have a place to live. So long as I'm physically able, I'll be around, so you'll never be alone, in text if nothing else. :D

I'll admit, more than a little of it is to be a contrarian. It's in my blood.

Wow. Glad you're okay, that's intense. Even when we've had blizzards up in my part of Joisey, never had it get that bad. Did lose heat early last winter, which was tremendously unpleasant for the 3 days it took to get fixed, but we still had power.

Hey Mate,

First of all don't say sorry for venting, everyone needs to do it, I had to on Sunday and while I'm not suddenly okay because of it, it definitely helps.

Sounds like a tough situation, being pulled out of your comfort of your own home it can be horrible, though not the same I moved out at 25 years old to live on my own for the first team and I was nervous as hell. I found going out of the house as much as I could helped, go see you grandparents or your friends. Also it might help to find more online communities that share your hobbies. Sorry if I sound like a therapist but as I guy who often feels lonely I thought some of my tricks to deal with it might help.

yeah, I know, just don't like to vent to often, makes me feel bad and I don't really need that right now.

normally I would go to the cinema and maybe watch a movie I want to see like the new Spiderman movie, but you know covid and I haven't gotten the vaccine yet for a number of reasons.
I'm also the family driver since there isn't really anyone else at the moment so I have to keep my distance from people as both my grandparents can't get the vaccine because of health issues.
but it is on my to do list to become more social active once (I'm an introvert so don't like leaving my house) I have my own place, maybe join some kind DnD club or something (always wanted to try DnD might aswell give it a shot now that I have the time for it and don't have to worry much about money except for budgeting like crazy since I'm retired.)

I do think you words helped, however I don't think I can do much to put any real plans in motion until I get my own place and well covid is over as I don't want my family to die for being exposed to the virus while I'm in a fragil state of mind and don't have my own place.

Sounds like a tough situation, but you should get the vaccine. Better later than not at all.

yeah it is.

I will eventually, I just need to find a time slot where I can handle it mentally and haven't a ton of places I need to drive to for my family (not to mention myself).

Okay, new GPU is in and I think everything is installed in terms of drivers....
Things look a little odd but that might be because IO had to move everything to use my monitors so...that might be it.

EDIT: It's just my eyes, everything it fine.
Now the CPU is throttling me buuuuut that's next build's concern.
I don't fancy getting a new CPU when I don't "need" to right now. Plus money...

But I have a back-up GPU now.
