Re: Tali'Thread vas Clan Zorah nar BSN 6.0
Egh, tell me about it. The whole "professionalization" of dungeons with mythic dungeons really helped me to get put off of WoW, aside from all the other things, especially since there are third party websites which assign you now a ranking on how often and good you do mythic dungeons, rapidly diminishing chances for getting random groups for casuals. Ah, well. Another reason why I won't return that that game.
Re: Tali'Thread vas Clan Zorah nar BSN 6.0
Met up with an old friend today, first time in over a decade, at least. Was in fact my first friend, when we were toddlers, his mom would babysit me, and we were born exactly 1 month apart. Despite having moved away when I was 13, and not having visited him since my late teens, didn't miss a beat in our (very long) conversations. Was nice. Also, he's extremely similar to me in terms of life experiences, mindset, and beliefs, despite our massive physical differences, upbringing, and having spent over half our lives apart. Which was odd.
Re: OW2 - So, million dollar question, what kind of character is a perfect 0 on that chart? I think we can all guess.
@Sci: Bingo. Full coverage on the face, but not nearly enough density. But can never fully shave, or the babyface comes back.

Abaddon got his beloved warship back. She's a proud, stubborn, bloodthirsty old bitch; it'll take more than some super nukes, Warp rifts and eldar trickery to put her down.

A couple days ago I mentioned I was working on a DOOM level. One of my New Years Resolutions was to try and make a six map Doom 2 WAD as a test of my programming and game making skills. At the moment I'm halfway there! Thus far Vol has been kind enough to test these maps for me, but I was wondering what you guys might think, if you're interested at all.
For those of you who'd like to try it, huzzah! You'll just need a couple things:
First, a copy of DOOM 2. Specifically DOOM2.WAD. You can buy it or pirate it, either way.
Second, an installation of GZDoom.
Third, and optionally, DoomLauncher. This is a real convinence feature if you want to get more into Doom wads and such, but it does make handling various mods, map packs and resources a lot easier.
My current release of my WAD "Dog Days" can be downloaded here. Tell me if you like it or hate it or find a bug or whatever!

The "Chaos Gods" didn't want to have to gin up a new, super powerful, ancient, rare flagship either.

I have been! They're maps with the DOOM2 WAD, which everyone surely has. I never actually played through DOOM2, so in this latest map, meeting the Revenants for the first time was...rough. I'm normally very good at avoiding hits, and especially deaths, and yet!

Re: Tali'Thread vas Clan Zorah nar BSN 6.0
I loved Mechwarrior 2 and played it A LOT when I was a teenager.

At the time I loved the graffics, the atmosphere, the 'open world' aspect of it and that I could change my HUD and preferred the wireframe outline option. I loved the fact that you could choose different factions and battle FPS or 3rd person if you chose. One of the best parts for me though was the music and I loved the epic combination of orchestral plus percussion which was new at the time. Sometimes I would leave the map and go into the hills and just look at the sky because the graphics were so cool. It was also unique because it was my only real PC game and I didn't feel like I had to be rushed off it because I was hogging the TV with a console. My only regret is that I never got good at it. I'd play base levels, simple things, but never explored the full potential and breadth of the game.
Now, enough with my nostalgia vision. Have any of you played this game or any others in the series? My brother had one for PS(1,2?) but I never got to play with it. Of course I could google it, but I wanted to hear from you guys if you knew what happened to the series.

On a whim, took an autism test, just to see where I land. My guess was within the low-range, but not actually autistic.
https://embrace-autism.com/raads-r/#test
Got an 85, where the mean is 130 for someone with autism. So exactly right, at least according to self-perception. Not autistic, just weird, I guess.
@Sci: I never played it, not a mecha guy (though all my friends are for some reason), but _that cover art_, I saw it endlessly over the years. Games stores, magazines, that stomping mech tickles some good memories.

Man, that box brings me back. Remember when Activision did things that weren't milking Call of Duty dry? I do!

I never did play any of the Mechwarrior games, but boy the Heavy Gear games were my jam. Heavy Gear II is technically a much better game, but the cornball joy of the original in it's FMV, Z-list actor cheeseball glory is hard to top.

I mean, look at it. Glorious.
I actually have the Heavy Gear 2nd Edition RPG/Wargame about five feet to my right. I've been itchin' to play it, but it's hard finding people interested and also have the time. Alas.

Sure! I'm a huge BattleTech fan from my early teen years onward (i.e. for three decades now) and have played almost all the BT games out there, except Mechwarrior I and some stuff which was only on consoles. I've cooled down on the franchise in the last decade and a half, though, mostly because they managed to fuck up the fictional universe to a degree which is not as bad as the Mass Effect 3 ending, but nearly and sadly they doubled down on it and kept the timeline going. But that doesn't really have to concern you, given that you probably never touched the novels.
You can basically forget about Mechwarrior 3 and 4, because they are just not available anymore and if you somehow obtain them, they don't run on modern machines (or modern Windows). Still. Mechwarrior 4 Mercenaries in particular was an excellent game, which I miss being able to play. Man, the Solaris VII fights with Duncan Fisher as the announcer... muah! <chef's kiss>
Anyway, the currently available games are Mechwarrior 5 Mercenaries and BattleTech (yes, just "BattleTech"). Ah, yeah, and also Mechwarrior Online.
MW5:M is very near to Mechwarrior 2 in the sense that you pilot a mech from the cockpit perspective and have lance mates to which you give orders. It offers either a story campaign (not very good) or a free play modus where you start as a mercenary in whatever house you prefer and offers the whole Inner Sphere as a playground to go to. You have to manage your mercenary company as a strategic element, but the focus is on the combat gameplay first and foremost. It's a pretty good game, although the missions get a bit samey after a while. Mod support is pretty good, although not fantastic. You can get some new Hud configurations from mods.
BattleTech is a strategy game in the vein of XCOM, where you play another mercenary leader and have a story campaign and a free play modus, with a much better story campaign and the free play modus also being very good. You can deploy a full lance of mechs and pitch them in turn based combat against opponent mechs and other vehicles. It's much nearer to the actual BattleTech board game, although it doesn't copy it. You don't have access to the whole Inner Sphere in the normal game, just the southern part of it. But there is excellent mod support and you have gigantic mods which actually unlock the entire Inner Sphere, broaden the mech roster immensely, introduce new mechanics, etc. etc.
I can recommend both of those games.
Mechwarrior Online is also in the vein of Mechwarrior 2, although quite a bit more arcade-y and it's a free to play online game, with all the elements you'd expect from one of these, i.e. premium vehicles, pay to win aspects and so on. It's basically World of Tanks with mechs, however the team combat is less strategic overall, although of course there are optimal winning strategies. The combat itself is much more fast paced and arcade-y than in Mechwarrior 5 Mercenaries and since it's a strictly PvP game, you can expect to get your center torso sniped out from across the map by veteran players when you just show it over the hill. It can be good and I played a good bit of it some years ago, but since it's PvP it's pretty unforgiving as well. It's not my recommendation to start with it.
If you want something as much like Mechwarrior 2 as you can get, go for Mechwarrior 5 Mercenaries. If you want to try out something strategic, go for BattleTech. If you really want to start a FTP Mechwarrior and have lots of time and patience to invest (or money, if you want to), try Mechwarrior Online.

Never owned it myself, but a friend of mine did, and we took turns playing whenever we would hang out on the weekends. I remember it being a lot of fun.
And that image was HUGE back in the day. Every gaming magazine had it, every early gaming website had it, it was everywhere.

Thanks for all the MW2 info. I never hear anyone talk about it. I'll definitely look into seeing what I can play with what I have. Like BattleTech.

Oh shit, I'd forgotten about Spess Mehrine 2. So long as they're not fucking it up something fierce, which is fairly hard in 40k, I'm in.
Re: Tali'Thread vas Clan Zorah nar BSN 6.0
Today was Alola Geodude Community Day. Was nice. Caught over 200 of them, got a dozen or so shinies, 2 of which I evolved into Golems with their special Community Day move, and then some normal ones that had better stats, with a ton left over. The only downside was a hot front moved in from Mexico and it was 90+ and humid out, and I'm a large man. At a certain point my phone screen could barely track my fingers anymore, and I was only moving on "Catch 'em all" instinct.
Was nice.

Re: Tali'Thread vas Clan Zorah nar BSN 6.0
Tried my hand at some minor modding yesterday for Total War: Three Kingdoms. Result: Two values modded, game didn't work anymore, even after a re-install.
I got it to work again by installing it on another hard drive (so probably a setting on Steam for the local hard drive was causing the CTD on start-up), but it took an hour or so of frantic looking through forums and trying several things before the last thing worked out.
As for what I modded, the one thing (faster research) I did find after all on the workshop in working conditions, while the other thing (slower prestige progression through the last rank, so that the mid-game lasts longer) I got to work on the reinstalled game. So, it worked out after all.

Turned 32 today and...yup, that's about it. Don't think there's a special age other than 65 in line for me.
