Well based on internet speculation, one of two things is happening.
Either Mass Effect Andromeda will be getting every DLC ever made, or Bioware Montreal is officially dead and absorbed.
Very helpful.

Re: Bioware General (Mass Effect/Dragon Age/Other)
It's the Internet, Theo. People loooove their hyperboles. If I were to make a guess, BW Montreal is not gone, if anything because they need some extra people with most of BW Austin working on Anthem. And thei're either gonna make one major piece of DlC, to wrap up some of the loose ends that were originally meant to be sequel-bait, or thei're gonna recycle the assetts that they were working on for s.p. DlCs as multiplayer content. The whole "two batarians sneaking on the Salarian Ark and causing trouble" already stinks of the latter.
Re: Bioware General (Mass Effect/Dragon Age/Other)
I just can't imagine there wasn't single player DLC well into production by launch, and that EA would then shutter it rather than finish it and put it out to at least make up costs. That and that comic Drag posts seem to be a big ole' lead-up to the quarian ark.

EA is also hilariously out of touch, since they thought it'd bring in way more money than it did.
Oh and they don't know what makes a good game. Because it sure as fuck isn't slashing budgets and telling people to start using different tools in the middle of development.

It's similar to what happened with Dead Space 3... they thought they were gonna make ALL the money with that one because they streamlined it alot, and forced into it co-op and microtransactions, and when it "underperformed" compared to what they had in mind and received lukewarm reviews at best, they decided the series was no longer profitable, and we haven't seen a new game from that series, or Viscelar in genera, ever since.
The good news tho is that despite that DS3 DID get a final major piece of DlC, even tho it was wasted to build up a cliffhanger that is likely never gonna be resolved.
So who knows, unless is what's left of BW Montreal that call it quits, there may still be a slim chance of some kind of epilogue or extra mission DlC coming...

Re: Bioware General (Mass Effect/Dragon Age/Other)
It is now official. An EA representative conformed that Bioware Montreal is being merged with EA Motive.
Its over.
Its over.
Re: Bioware General (Mass Effect/Dragon Age/Other)
It's not just about finances. ME3's ending debacle was one of the biggest blow ups in gaming history, and Andromeda was supposed to be a fresh new reboot that would kickstart the next era of Mass Effect. Even if it sold well, the critical reception means justifying investing in the next one is really fucking hard, especially if EA really did give the team tons of lateral movement only for them to dawdle on pointless features that they never even reconciled in the concept phase (chiefly how you do story content on procedurally generated worlds.) Mass Effect was already tainted, and it's grand return to form was met with harsh criticism which probably validated concerns I'm sure EA must of had during it's troubled development.

Won't be long now. Depends if Anthem fails or not.

I really don't understand EA's reasoning when it comes to giving big projects with big names to a bunch of nobodies that have never developed a game before.

Because it might be more to do with office spaces and taxation more than projects, maybe?
Wouldn't they get less cost from tax from Canada if they Umbrella'd all their studios into a new building?
Is EA Motive the offices/building name or is it the name of the Anthem Project?
If it's the former then it's probably them putting everything in one building. If it's the latter then, yeah, that studio has died.
Would I say that's the nail in the coffin?
I honestly can't say.
I dunno why they'd have Casey Hudson come back from Microsoft only to have him hand the keys over/commit the death sentence. I mean the implication is outstanding if that's the case.
Even so, it doesn't look great.
Re: Bioware General (Mass Effect/Dragon Age/Other)
Well, TOR took a hit with the 5.0 patch I hear, but they have a new lead who's going to try to go hard back to the MMO roots and open communication. Montreal's absorbed, despite the comic and novel about the quarian ark that's coming, outlook is not good for actual content. Seems like everything left of Bioware is in the Dragon Age team or banking on Anthem.

Well... can't say I'm surprised. This could truly be the beginning of the end.

That is all quite true, but EA made alot of stupid decisions too during the development (the whole Frostbyte thing first and foremost) and ignored or agreed to the hiring of very "questionable" people on the team that made things even worse. Even if they want to call it quits on this particular series, they should at least pull their heads out of their asses and learn a lesson or two from what happened. They're likely not going to, because EA, but they really really should...
Re: Bioware General (Mass Effect/Dragon Age/Other)
Anthem lead designed Corey Gaspur has passed away, he was responsible for a lot in some of their biggest titles. Truly sad times around BioWare at the moment.

And Corey Gaspur was one of the veterans too. This is rather sudden, so I'm a bit curious as to what he died of.

Shit. I just remembered why that name sounded so familiar.

I will remain on board as long as they make RPGs. They drop those and I bail.

I'm personally looking forward to the human Commando, since she has Singularity, Turbocharge and Warp.

So catch them in the net, warp them then finish them off with lots of bullets. Is that how you'd play her?

I have no idea if Warp is a primer, a detonator or both in this case. A biotic user with Turbocharge sounds really interesting, though. It's like a Vanguard minus the Charge.
It's whacky combinations like this that I really enjoy. Something outside the archetypes. That batarian is getting Annihilation Field, Charge and Flak Cannon, which sounds neat, since he can detonate combos with his melee.

Warp wasn't in the main game, right?
I'm having a hard time imagining Charge and Annihilation field working together. Would charge hit them first then they get weaker with AF? Usually nova finishes them off, but C and AF seems like it'll work well to slowly whittle enemies down instead of finishing them off quickly. Guess we'll see what others come up with.

No, for some reason, Warp wasn't in the game until now.
I'm pretty sure Annihilation Field turns off when you activate Charge and then reactivates when you're done, so it won't automatically trigger any biotic explosions at the destination. Then again, it's really good for a batarian with melee-focus if he can get the different biotic debuffs and restore shields with each kill/hit.
Then he's going to be very good against armor with Flak Cannon. I'm just doubtful that he'll be able to do much against shields, just like the other batarian.

That's going to be the same battle for most builds, except tech.

Re: Bioware General (Mass Effect/Dragon Age/Other)
A ME:A producer at Edmonton confirmed there is a still a team at Edmonton working on ME:A, albeit he only alluded to the MP content. Otherwise, same old song and dance, "I'd love to talk about it, but I can't."
And the lead designer on ME:A has left Bioware to work for EA formally as part of that merge.
~Who knows~
