I haven't pre-ordered the game myself either. I was just poking fun at Vol because one of his previous post.

Tbh I don't care if people pre-order it or not. It's people who are buying that stupid fucking super deluxe edition of the game. People who are buying because they won't to "support" The game are by far the stupidest.

I have a feeling that most of the people don't even know it's just giving you MP boosters.

TBH there is going to be a time when they'll spend the same amount of time as they'll end up getting those boosters anyway, just depends on when they spend the money.

Do they ever fully explain how Big Daddies (Bioshock) or Handymen are made? The latter is easy to infer, but the former, all I can recall is a line about grafting skin and organs, which is incredibly vague.

So Songbird, Handymen, Firemen, at least 4 flavors of Big Daddies, and the Boys of Silence, all surgical abominations, and the only one we have a fairly clear idea of what's going on internally is the Handymen.

I mean, obviously, you don't need to lay it out every time, and the mystery is part of the barbarism in some cases, but c'mon. Macabre minds want to know.

The only concrete details on the Big Daddies is that they are actually flayed alive before donning the suit, and then they are steamed to fuse with it before the suit is welded completely shut. Also, I distinctly remember that station in the final act that does something funny to your vocal chords to enable those whale calls.

Songbird was inspired by the Big Daddy in-universe, so the procedure to create him was also very similar. If you recall from the DLC, Songbird's limbs are entirely prosthetic, so that colossal torso of his houses whatever no good that was done to him.

Remember Bioshock 2? Remember the Big Sisters, or Gil Alexander? Now that was a fun trip.

Sounds like they're basically re-doing the End Times story from Warhammer Fantasy where Chaos destroyed everything. Not only is that lame because they're copying and pasting, but it makes no sense from a lore perspective since the 40k Chaos Gods like things as they are and are smart enough to know if they engulf the whole galaxy in the Eye they're only screwing themselves in the long run. There are better ways to make Abaddon a threat again than having him do what Archaon did.

If you want to shake things up, it'd be more fun if:

--the rest of the Tyranids show up and are ready to eat every living thing in the galaxy
--the Imperium, the Eldar, the Tau, and the Orkz are all forced to team up to stand against the ravenous hordes
--the Necrons, knowing the Tyranids will leave once they eat all the meatbags and have no interest in the machines, help the Tyranids by attacking the alliance from the other side
--The Golden Throne breaks down and the Emperor dies
--The Tyranids are about to break the lines when Chaos comes pouring out of the Eye of Terror to defend the galaxy, because the galaxy is their playground dammit, and they're not going to share it or give it up to upstart bugs
--the missing Primarchs come back
--The Dark Eldar take advance of the discord by removing the Necrons from the celestial battlefield by unleashing the locked up C'tan, who go after their former jailers
--the alliance manages to wipe out the Tyranids
--Chaos retreats back to Eye but not after making some substantial new gains and the daemons and gods stuffed for awhile from all the death and negative emotions from the war, the handful of Eldar left make ready to leave the galaxy entirely, the Dark Eldar take over their cousins' holdings, the Orkz think this was the best weekend ever and go home to party before promising to start more fights next week, the Tau become a major power, the Necrons subdue the C'tan but at the cost of being a major threat to anyone for awhile and most go back to sleep, the Imperium is now tiny and weak but for the first time in millennia can make actual progress and rebuild with the remaining Primarchs in charge, some new species emerge to fill the power vacuum, and one last Tyranid egg hatches a queen deep in the bowels of a backwater planet….

I'm not sure about re-doing the End Times arc from W. Fantasy, but it sure sounds like they want to put togheter some bigger alliance like with the Age of Sygmar reboot from Fantasy. I could see an Imperium, Eldar and Tau axis become the equivalent of the Alliance of Order W:AoS has right now. The bad guys in W40k tho aren't really "compatible" in the same fashion as the ones in Fantasy are, unless something crazy happens... at best I could see the Tyranid worshippers and the insane shard of the Adeptus Mechanicus (which WERE conveniently made into full factions relatively short ago) joining Chaos, but Tyranids, Necrons and Orks don't really give a shit of the demons of the Warp's plans...

Do you recall when they say that? From memory, they were heavily spliced, hypnotized, and their skin and organs were "transplanted" into the suit in a permanent sense. Though the Alpha series didn't get that part. Then something with the vocal chords, yeah.

Ah. I didn't play the DLC or Bioshock 2, so I was confused about how Songbird's internals worked without being a literal giant. Which then raises the question of why Handymen are proportionally primates, which then goes into other niggling questions. Such as, "Why forcibly implant someone into a horrible metal shell, where they cannot sleep, every sound hurts them, and they're made dumber by the process, but also super strong and agile?" And then the Vox ones pop up, which would have been the natural consequence anyway.

Though while I like the visuals of the Big Daddy's more, the idea of the Handymen is better. Deceiving marketing, half-assed product (Missing nerve endings? Bah, OUR FINK SURGEONS NEVER LOSE THEIR NERVES!), body horror, humanization, and so on. Though the presentation at the fair, where the Handyman is cowering and the crowd obviously can tell, but he's wearing the tattered suit and shoes instead of new ones, plus the cracked hands, was annoying. Sure, maybe not worth making a whole new skin if that would logically be the only time you'd see a pristine one, but c'mon.

Then the Boys of Silence, incredibly underused, no idea what's going on there. Firemen almost make sense, in that they're forcibly made pyro-flagellents, but then...why give them superpowers? Hey, we're going to punish you for your sins in the eyes of the Prophet, so we're going to put you into a special suit you can never remove that keeps you alive, but constantly burning, and then also you get superpowers to throw fire around. But don't use it on us tho.

Sure, one of the themes is the reckless disregard of capitalism and science creating literal monsters, philosophical ones, and then it's own downfall, but again, c'mon.

Were Big Sisters fucked up? I assumed they were "normal," but wearing the suits.

If I recall correctly, it was in an audio log buy Suchong, but it has been a very long time since I last played any Bioshock game. I distinctly remember them supposedly being skinless spliced up humans that are fused to their suits, and that they used steam to do the fusing. The Alpha series is the least monstrous, because they were the first.
Vol wrote:Were Big Sisters fucked up?

Very. Not in the typical body horror variety, but neurologically, they are the worst off of all of the Gatherer/Protectors in Rapture. The Big Daddy series for the most part were made docile and had simple behavior triggers, Big Sisters are just a huge mess mentally because they were haphazardly made without any real beta testing. They howl and screech when being defensive, and they don't calm down at the drop of a hat, they are deranged. Little Sisters are the one thing they will not harm, anything else is a threat to them.

Bioshock 2 is worth playing. I don't think the story is as good as the first, but I still thought it was a good narrative and I have learned to appreciate it more over time. The gameplay, though, is a big step-up, with enemy encounters being much more intense to match up with you actually being a Big Daddy.

I thought the original plans they had for Bioshock 2 were more interesting than what they actually delivered, and you can tell that late in development the script was suddenly changed.

The good news is that I live faaar too distant from Naples and Mt. Vesuvius to risk to get buried into a volcanic catastrophe. And my house is also relatively new, and built following proper anti-seismic principles.

The worst thing that can happen to me, is that a 'quake knocks off my action figures and nendoroids off the shelves. Probably.

There are alot of smaller comunities and villages on the mountain range running through most Italy tho that aren't that lucky. Lots of small places, with building decades old, and churches and other landmarks far, far older, that don't get through these things. The sad irony though is that the biggest fuck-ups often happen due to modern idiocy... like people will over-disboscate hills that are mostly made of compressed volcanic ashes, so whenever there's a big quake or, even worse, a prolonged rainstorm, half the damn hill will crumble and fall down, buring anything on its passage. Or there was an elementary school, built less than five years ago I think, that was supposed to be anti-seismic. The big quakes of a couple months ago had it going down like an house of card, because some sleazy builder or some sleazy bureaucrat cut corners with the building materials and grabbed the extra money. Luckly it was a no-school day, otherwise the bastard would have Lord knows how many little kids' lives on his conscience...

Bottom line... lots of shit goes down every time the earth trambles around here, but I'm in one of the safest possible situations.
