From what we've seen, Jiren could have won this whole tournament in a single episode if he really wanted to. He's more powerful than his universe's God of Destruction. He's more powerful than Goku's new limit breaker Ultra Instinct state. The dude is basically Silver Age Superman. If he loses, its his own damn fault for being an idiot and not actively ringing-out people and giving Goku and company time to miraculously get stronger or figure out a plan.

According to the manga, Jiren didn't want to join the tournament, even with the stakes of his universe being erased at play, until he learned the Super Dragon Balls would be the prize and they could grant any wish. Its said Jiren has one desire that he wants to see fulfilled, but what that is we don't know yet.

Most if not all of the universes are probably going to be wished back before all is said and done, regardless of outcome, I'd wager. U6 is definately coming back, considering how popular it is.

Holy shit! They got Brian Drummond (Ocean Dub Vegeta) to come back and voice Copy Vegeta for DBS! Brilliant!

Brian Drummond Vegeta and Chris Sabat Vegeta. Its gonna be over 9000!!!!

Best choice of casting!
Best idea ever!
Made the episode relevant and not entirely filler. :D

The English Dub of DBS has been very enjoyable to watch; beyond just hearing the voices I grew up with and associate with the characters the most, its full of fun little nods and winks and references that DBZ fans will pick up on and appreciate. Plus, Sean Schemmel's voice acting puts a more genuine child-like innocence into DBS' Goku when he has his more selfish and immature moments, which is nice for those who prefered DBZ's take on Goku, even if its not quite in line with how the creator intended.

Before Funimation and Toonami, its was the Ocean Dub of DBZ I was watching. Brian Drummond was my first Vegeta.

Much that once was is lost; for none now live who remember it. It began with the forging of the Great Animated Shows. Within these animated series was bound the strength and will to govern each fandom. But they were all of them deceived… for another animated series was made. In the land of DC Entertainment, in the fires of Mount Doom, the Dark Lord forged, in secret, a Master Show to control all others. And into this Show, he poured his cruelty, his malice, and his will to dominate all life. One Show To Rule Them All. One by one the free lands of Cartoon Network fell to the power of Teen Titans Go. But there were some who resisted. A last alliance of Men and Elves marched against the armies of the Dark Lord. And on the slopes of Mount Doom, they fought for the freedom of Cartoon Network. Victory was near... but the power of Teen Titans Go could not be undone.

One Show to rule them all, One Show to find them,
One Show to bring them all and in the darkness bind them.

Sorta betrays the point of a _tournament of power_ when the guy who'll probably win does so by temporarily multiplying his power a gorillion times just long to beat the guy who's baseline stronger than everyone and some gods.

"Well, Goku over here was able to spike his power to (your power)+1 for about 30 seconds, so clearly he's the best fighter, even if he was laughably weaker than you at all other times."

The concept of erasing entire universes at some child-god's whim over a test of combat skill from a group of people from each universe is fucking terrifying, mind you.

Reality in the multiverse of Dragon Ball is scary as shit. At any moment, the planet you live on could be destroyed by your assigned God of Destruction. But at least in that scenario, its helping the grand cosmic balance in the long run, and your soul goes on to the afterlife, where you enjoy heaven and then eventually get reincarnated. (Unless you really piss off your God of Destruction, because they can destroy souls if they want). But now, also at any moment, the Supreme God King of all the universes in creation, the All-Powerful God of Gods, who has the mentality of a child, with the innocence to not understand the full meaning of his actions, and no mature wisdom to comprehend the morality of his actions, could destroy your entire universe, including your afterlife and your soul, which means total oblivion, on the tiniest of whims.

In March 2018 Marvel is going to give us "the final battle" between Spider-Man and Green Goblin. Featuring a new player in the game: the Red Goblin. Is he a new ally for Osborn or a new transformation? Time will tell. I do hope Red Goblin has nothing to do with Mephisto. Osborn has been dabbling in magic and the occult recently so it raises my alarms.

Some Spider-Man news that will make a lot of people happy:

Dan Slott is leaving Spider-Man

And in non-Spider-Man Marvel news:

"JIM STARLIN Cuts Ties With Marvel Over THANOS Dispute"

Do you remember which?

Also I don't know why but I've been less enthused about reading Star Wars Literature after the whole mass EU dumpage....
Has anyone read anything that is good from the "new canon"?
Like are the movie tie-in books like the aftermath series any good?

Lords of the Sith by Paul S. Kemp, Tarkin by James Luceno, and Thrawn by Timothy Zahn are all definitely worth reading if you're a Star Wars fan, especially if you like stories that focus on the Imperial side of things. I recommend those three.

I've been told that Catalyst: A Rogue One Novel by James Luceno is a good read, but I can't confirm as I haven't read it. Journey to The Force Awakens: Lost Stars by Claudia Gray and Phil Noto has gotten some praise, from what I've heard. Again, can’t confirm.

I've only skimmed the Aftermath series at the bookstore. Seems like if you want to know the details of how Palpatine moved so much Imperial resources into the Unknown Regions to set up the First Order down the road without anyone really noticing, and the stuff that lead to the Battle at Jakku, you should give these a read, but if that doesn't really interest you, you can give them a pass and just read a summary on one of the SW wikis.

The other novels haven’t really earned my attention. They didn’t seem interesting or really relevant.

Ah, thanks.
I loved Timothy Zahn's other Thrawn stuff so I hope it's more of that.
I think I have the ebook of Lords of the Sith and Tarkin I've not yet picked up yet.

As to the others I'll have a look.
I am gonna see the aftermath's background stuff on the wiki's.

We need a good Mandalorian book to come out again for Sabine's stuff. A shame they fucked over Karen Traviss so much that she's probably not going to come back and do more stuff for them.

So that was a good episode, even if there was a dip in animation quality in a few places. Stakes, real team work, feels, comedy, a good fight, a foe that referenced a whole bunch of DBZ movie villains, a U7 character ring out, a universe destroyed, and the stage is set for the arc's conclusion.

Goku would have been knocked out if Freeza didn't save him.

17 would have been knocked out if 18 didn't sacrifice herself to rescue him. 18 is out.

So now its down to the final battle: Goku, Gohan, Vegeta, 17, and Freeza vs the three remaining Pride Troopers Toppo, Dyspo, and Jiren. Universe 7 vs Universe 11. They either have to find a way to beat a character who's basically Silver Age God Mode Superman, or run out the clock and win by having the most team members left.

Ok, so Vegeta in SSB at max 100% power seems to be stronger than Goku in SSB at max 100% power with the power multiplier of kaioken x20 on top of that because he's actually landing a few decent hits on Jiren. That day he spent in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber before the tournament was well spent. He's going to lose without Ultra Instinct, of course, especially when Jiren starts getting serious, but he should take pride in the fact he's putting up a better fight against Jiren than Goku did before his Ultra Instinct transformation kicked in.
