But... ehh... it's annoying, but most of the game story and character-wise is solid. I've seen hell of a lot worse in terms of wokeness. I guess it's just a bit more jarring when it happens to Mortal Kombat, given the series's style and history.

Yuup and the fact they are aware that "feature creep" is a thing and not just promising absurd quantities of extra stretch goals despite making over 10 times their initial goal, is a pretty good sign already.

What worries me now is the potential lawsuit that started calling dibs on the name Subverse as soon as he saw these guys were making a load of cash. Hopefully that doesn't degenerate into something awful.

War of the Spark is over. It took a multitude of 4-D chess level scheming, a ton of luck, some heroic sacrifices, some last minute treachery, Ravnica got fucked to hell and back, and scores of characters died, but in the end Nicol Bolas got defeated, denied his transcendence into total omnipotence, and even had his Planeswalker spark taken from him. He's not dead though, just imprisoned in dimensional limbo. (until WOTC decide they want to use him again).

Imma be honest, I bought that game for the Story mode, nostalgia, and having fun with classic towers.

Grinding will never effect me, because I frankly dont care about most of what it effects. Im not happy it exists, but I also do not have the energy to get angry about it.

Also while Johnny remains excellent, I feel like Raiden is the most fun to play.

Also Its probably a good thing Sonya doesn't have a huge role in the story because Ronda Rousy is AWFUL.

I've heard worse, but there's a reason only an handful of wrestlers manage to really make the jump from exibition fighters to actors, and she's definately proof of that...

Also the obvious media b.s. has begun. Shill... err sorry... mainstream journalists are calling MK11 the best and boldest of the series (mostly because of Jax's "Let's End Slavery" Ladder Ending, and because all the boobs have been downsized and covered) and there's already some of the devs lashing out on social media, saying that if you don't like the game you're white trash and they don't want your money anyway.

It's particularly a shame in this case, because unlike with a bunch of other stuff that went down this particular rabbitt hole, from what I've seen there's still so much good stuff in MK11, and I really enjoyed the game's main plot and characters interactions. I really, REALLY don't want to get needlessly angry or hate at this game, because it's obvious there was still a lot of love and care put into it.

Hopefully it becomes more a case of good devs learning from a few fuckups than another round of pointless controversies that in the end makes nobody happy.

Players begin the game as a newly embraced Thinblood, a second-class group of vampires with abilities weaker than those from one of the great clans. As the story progresses, players will eventually join one of the five full-blooded Kindred clans, each of which will be revealed in the coming weeks.
Thinbloods are a recent, weaker strain of vampire who face a constant struggle to survive in the World of Darkness. I was fighting a horrifically aggressive Liu Kang in the Towers of Time, the kind of bot that read your every input. He would relentlessly juggle me, catch me every time I tried to break a juggle or roll away, he would block and punish every attack I tried to land. After blocking a series of blows, I would try to use my parry, and he suddenly stops attacking me, waits out the moment the parry window ends before he continued to shove my head into my own ass.

All the while, the modifier for this fight had Liu Kang on fire, so I took constant damage from just being close to him. Close to him in a fighting game. Of course zoning didn't work at all on him. And the proximity damage over time completely bypassed my block, too.

I just dont have the patience for that kind of shit anymore. Its just not at all what i come to this series for.

As absurd as it sounds, I come to Mortal Kombat for the story it tells. I only just finished the story mode, and while I have mixed opinions on the ending, it made me realize that for as stupid as it can get, Mortal Kombat's story is very underrated.

They have been telling a continuous story for the games 27 years. Between between publishers and even reboots, it has kept going. It has every bit the amount of complexity as the Metal Gear series. And yet has managed to tell it through a few slide shows, cut-scenes, and pre-fight banter. It has incredibly deep lore. Nearly every character has long complex backstories and motivations. The world/worlds are all fleshed out. Each with their own look, rules, customs and cultures.

I'm rambling, and its hard to say what I am trying to say. The story MK11 tells somehow manages to turn what seemed to be a mess of fun, ridiculous ideas into an actual, for real, epic...

And having beaten the game, it has become clear to me that this might, for real, be the last Mortal Kombat game. There is no way this story can continue with the way the way it ends. It puts Ed Boons statement of "Our next project will be COMPLETELY different from anything we have done before..." into perspective. There may be more games set in the Mortal Kombat Universe, but the story of Mortal Kombat, a story that has lasted almost 30 years, a story that I have followed since I was 4 years old, is over.

Walking through the Krypt in 11 made me realize how badly this series needs another adventure game a-la Shaolin Monks. If Rocksteady isn't working on a God of War (2018) style game set in the Mortal Kombat Universe, this is the worst timeline.
