Yeah, don't play 3 if you've been on a 4/5 kick. It's far more primitive, especially if you play the Vita edition, which is supposed to be the best (female antagonist), but also has massively downgraded graphics and movement. It's a damn solid game in its own right, and it's amusing seeing how some of themes evolved in the series, but you'd not properly appreciate it.

I'm in the middle of my Persona 5 Royal run, I said I was going to start it a while ago, and it was only about a week ago that I finally made good on that promise. I'm now farther than my initial run back in P5 Vanilla, and it's been fun. The point that I am at right now is that Yusuke has just joined my team.

I've actually been debating on doing another run of it myself, I've only completed the game once. But lately I've been on such a rigid Japanese media fix; Final Fantasy VII, old and new, X, XIV, Persona 5, and I've been binge-watching Kurosawa films. I need to inject something western in this, otherwise I'm afraid that I'm turning Japanese, I think I'm turning Japanese, I really think so.

The thing that really holds me back is actually the fact that you dont have full combat control. I can deal with most anything else.

I don't impose a limit. Probably should. I practice casual self-discipline, where I restrict indulgent behavior, but don't keep track or impose specific limits on myself. An organic approach, you could call it.

That said, "Too many." But I have cycles of gaming, so in an off cycle, I'll play absolutely nothing. During an on cycle, might spend most hours of the day.

I sincerely hope so, because I was immensely displeased with how slow and uneventful the story became for the past several hours.

It has been the game's main issue since it was created. Pretty much everyone agrees on how painful it is to go through these L50 quests. It is a meme at this point.

That is the problem when focusing on the story in a MMO, it makes it harder for people to catch up.

But once again, once in Heavensward it starts running much more smoothly.

That would completely depend on the game. If it's one that I like (say, Gunfire Reborn), I'll play it whenever I feel a little bit bored.

Though, if I were to give a number, it's roughly 20 hours a week. I think. I haven't been needed that much at work lately, so I've been finding myself at home with nothing to do and when that happens, I play a game.

I'm also part of like four tabletop games that take 3-4 hours each week.

It depends greatly on a number of factors--my work schedule, what games I'm currently playing, etc.--but a rough estimate on average? Maybe 6 to 18 hours a week?

I've had more free time on my hands than normal these past couple months, but I really haven't played that much and have been focusing on getting caught up on my reading, other hobbies, and getting more exercise in. When it comes to recent titles, the only one that I play with any regularity is Smash Ultimate, and that's just to maintain a general level of skill on my mains.

I've been on the Xbox a lot more lately because I can earn Microsoft points through the bing app and Xbox Game Pass. That's where I got Nier essentially for free. Halo MCC is free for me too. So I feel obligated to at least play enough to earn weekly achievement goals through the app. So I've been gaming a lot more. So 16 hours a week is quite middle ground for me. Never done more than 40 hours a week.

This time of year is perfect for Senran Kagura Peach Beach Splash on the PS4 by the way. Playing a 3rd person water gun shooter is essential to help cool off in this super hot weather.

So... it looks and plays almost exactly like the Arkham games, but it's not a sequel to Arkham Knight... even tho that game ended on the perfect bait for this kind of continuation. Alright... strange but whatever. Could be fun, especially since thei're not being as heavy on the multiplayer as, say, the Avengers game and it's still first and foremost a big story driven open world kind of deal.

Also gee... I wonder if it was the Court of Owls who killed the Bat. Assuming he's even really dead and they didn't just brainwash him or something and he turns out to be the game's final boss.

So, finished Horizon Zero Dawn, which is why I'm still awake so late. ^^

Overall, the story got better and the protagonist as well. The story of how humanity engineered its own apocalypse was pretty depressing, though, and, at least in terms of human nature, all too plausible. I was pretty annoyed at my character being knocked out twice in cutscenes, to get her into sticky situations, when I just basically had wiped the floor with hordes of the same kind of enemies than the ones who knocked her out. Oh, well.

All in all, 41 hours playtime, with about 50% of sidequests done. If I'd have to rate the game, I'd say "Worse than Shadow of Mordor". At least the Orcs had personality, contrary to all the robot animals. Aloy is overall a bit better of a protagonist than Talion, but not by that much. Get it at a sale, if you like this kind of game.

Alright, I’m writing it anyway, I really have gotten a bit frustrated with the entire thing after thinking about it. Talk about fridge logic in a story!

The game revolves around the main character Aloy. Humanity has fallen back into mostly stone age technology, living in mostly primitive tribes (yet a lot of them decked out in “kewl” decorations of metal plates from the old world). There’s a still some tech around though (like portable gatling guns for some enemies) and there are pretty big tech differences (some living in stone buildings with high architecture, some living in mud huts).

In any case, Aloy is part of the Nora tribe, but she is an outcast, because she doesn’t have a mother (which is a big thing with that tribe). When she is young, she finds an artifact of the old world, a “focus”, which essentially gives her Witcher senses. As she becomes a young adult, she is allowed to participate in a trial to become a full member of the tribe, but that trial is then ambushed by a shady organization, who kill most participants. Aloy had already passed the trial and is given the position of “Seeker”, which essentially allows her to circumvent tribal taboos and go hunt down the people who attacked the Nora (but really were after her).

Also, there’s dino-bots (and horse-bots and buffalo-bots and so on).

So far the set-up.

The real meat of the story is finding out the origin of Aloy and what happened to the world to get it in the state it is today. Aloys part is actually the less interesting thing, she’s basically a clone of the head scientist who found a solution to save humanity and created to clean up a huge mess with the dino-bots becoming aggressive towards humans and averting a second apocalypse. I already was screaming "clone!" at the screen about halfway through the story, long before the actual reveal.

The more interesting part is “how we got here?” and it was also the part with the gigantic plot hole. Basically, corporations (especially one big mega-corp) built robot armies, which replaced the regular human military. And they made them un-hackable und self-sustainable on biomass, with self-replication technology (i.e. a cross between the Tyranids and the Reapers). And gave them no kill switch.

Unsurprisingly, one army of them went rogue and went on to eat the whole planet. Humanity (led by human super scientist Elisabet Sobeck, i.e. Aloys original self) made a gamble on hiding for a few hundred years and then rebooting the planet with future tech and getting humans out again. Of course shenanigans happen and things don’t go exactly to plan.

Now, the story doesn’t spare on depressing details of the whole thing (like billions of humans being made into slurpies by robots and of course tons of personal tragedy). So, the problem here is that the entire set-up doesn’t make sense. Not the “humanity is stupid enough to build its own downfall”, that seemed depressingly realistic.

No, the problem comes with the set-up, that there are several “swarms” of the killer robot armies out there, one went rogue and then was unstoppable. I mean, why? Yeah, they can self-replicate and so on, but aside from us having nuclear weapons (which definitely would have been effective, since bows and spears can kill those stupid fucking things), there were several other same-design uncorrupted robot armies running around. “But the rogue robot armies were super hackers and would simply convert other robot armies to their side” the game actually counters. The problem here being that it also explicitly said, that the humans were unable to counter-hack the rogue robots, because they made that entire line unhackeable. Meaning, those non-rogue robot armies of same design also were unhackeable and sending all of them in would have shut down the entire thread pretty damn quickly.

So, the entire set-up doesn’t work from the very start. Kinda makes all the melodrama later in the game useless.

well the machines also learned as it fought also we don't know if the nukes would work on the very big machines (the ones we don't get to fight in the game), also the ones we can fight with bow and arrow are clearly very damaged after centuries of being buried underground they are still a threat after all these years, but they are way past their prime and there is also a some sort of force behind why the machines went rouge to begin with which was hinted at during the story and after the credits as someone activated Hades, so even if the humans had somehow managed to stop them, it wouldn't have stopped whatever force behind that started and continues to try and end all life on the planet (I mean they basically waited centuries to try once again, which probably means it's a form of AI)
and as I understood it was all the unhackeble machines that went rouge but the world armies still had other machines I guess older modles with different systems which is why they could be hacked and not the others it's either that or well the forces I mentioned before who had a code that could infect the unhackble machines (I mean that's how it started after all, even Gia couldn't stop Hades from getting activated by some unknown code and stopping it without sacrificing herself in the process it pretty much shows whatever the hostiles forces are behind all this, are no joke in terms of smarts, long term planning and most of all utter dedication to destroying all life on the planet).

A and B) the unhackble robots already have the code to bypass their their whatever firewall the other have even if they didn't they have virus that already bypassed it to begin with so just infect with same virus and the army grows we see happen to the machines in game, just apply that to the past.
I kind get that's why Elizabeth advice against sending more machines against the swarm because she figure it out, even if it wasn't stated that there were a virus or whatever in the machines, but whatever was wrong with the rouge swarm could infect they others even if they were unhackble.

C) problem is that we don't know the numbers of the original swarm and what the defenses was of the big ones, for all we know it could have had defenses against nukes or they could be hiding in the seas or maybe they could cloak themselves from targeting at long range (I mean it's the future and scifi you can play a bit lost with the rules) and despite one being takes down conventional it was most likely a hard cost victory since it probably was surround by other machines and considering its sizes probably took a a lot of damage before it went down.

Anyway I suspect we will get more answers in the sequel.

Eh, I thought it was pretty much an ass-pull to get to the point of having an apocalypse. I mean, I get how you could get to the point of having "self-replicating unhackeable robots without a kill-switch who consume biomass to reproduce themselves" inside of a corporation tech group just shutting down their self-preservation instincts while they are working on a product. But getting that concept in production and then sold to several nation-states, without governments shutting that project down? Basically impossible, there are enough intelligent people there to state the very, very, very obvious problems. Basically, everybody got handed a giant idiot ball to get where the game writers wanted things to go.

And, sorry, as far as I can remember the actual events of the game (and I just played through them on Saturday), they did not state that the particular swarm that went rogue was more advanced than the others and they just didn't mention nukes or the like. If you need to ignore obvious solutions to the problem you have created in your fiction, to the point where fans need to make up stuff to keep the story going, you are making a mistake.

Eh, I thought it was pretty much an ass-pull to get to the point of having an apocalypse. I mean, I get how you could get to the point of having "self-replicating unhackeable robots without a kill-switch who consume biomass to reproduce themselves" inside of a corporation tech group just shutting down their self-preservation instincts while they are working on a product. But getting that concept in production and then sold to several nation-states, without governments shutting that project down? Basically impossible, there are enough intelligent people there to state the very, very, very obvious problems. if I remember correctly Ted did have protocols in place to shut the robots, but none of them worked for some reason (which sound similar to what happened to Gia and Hades) and it seemed that Ted wasn't up front with everything regarding the swarm as Elizabeth (who knew nothing about what they robots could do until after she looked over the documents and she worked in similar fields as his company did) did threaten him about revealing the information on how he screwed up and he apparently did "save" the world before everything went to shit according to the dlc so I imagine he had some cloud on what he could and was allowed to do because of that fact. Well let's be honest most humans aren't that smart, can be greedy, arrogant and so on (just look at Ted) so when a smart business man (who also "saved" the world previously from climate change) who claims to have these robots that can do an entire army job, can't be hacked and of course have protocols in place to shut them down should they go rouge well let's be honest there would be people who will take the guy on his word and buy those kind of robots, despite the dangers.

Well I doubt Ted's company was the only one who was making these kind of robots (probably just without the whole biomass thing) and he probably made some before the swarm so it was more of a guess on my side from a logical prescriptive considering robotics and AI were pretty advanced before the world went to shit after all we only get glimpses of the lore and world before it ended, we don't have all the details yet.

I'm pretty sure that the writers will have seen the criticism (I checked in the last hours, I wasn't the only one who noticed the plot holes) and will do something to appropiately gloss them over. It certainly did leave kind of a bad taste in my mouth after thinking about the whole story, especially since everything was so melodramatic and humorless overall.

Yeah we'll probably get some more details and lore in the sequel to iron some of the things which is pretty common in most media.

Still the first game was overall solid and the developers do seem to care about the fans and the games they are making so I have faith in the sequel.

The uproar about the new WoW expansion having 4 factions you can join, with associated combat abilities, is a good example of why player feedback is and isn't important. If given the chance, they absolutely will optimize the fun out of the game, into a mindless, eternal meta. But if you ignore them, your own hubris can bite you in the ass. As I get older, I favor the hubris, because at least a mostly pure vision is more interesting than one eternally bent to a mob that can never be sated nor knows what it wants.

As someone who prefers PUG'ing to being in a guild, I can see both sides. If the meta shifts in a way where PUG's refuse you because "You aren't Venthir and don't have Door of Shadows", then Blizzard has failed in their objective. But making the four covenants meaningful choices is something I very much like, too, since it makes for a better story.
