Also on static: Nobody at work bothers to wear gloves or discharge before working on computers (including very expensive servers). I've been there for 2 1/2 years now and have seen literally 0 instances of this ever being a problem.

Fall '19 I fried some memory because I didn't discharge. A blackout took out the MB and later upon inspection I remember touching the sticks and hearing a spark. I couldn't get the computer to recognize the stick. Of course computers isn't my "job" so I think being cautious and always discharging before one touches anything is critical. From my experience.

Finally got out of the paying some company to file my taxes racket this year. I've been meaning to do this because I knew it was a racket, but I was consistently too lazy. As it turns out, it's even stupidly easier to do it on your own than I thought it was. Seriously, if you are paying somebody to do your taxes, stop it.

Well, I was going for most useful improvement. The English language is deficient with no plural second-person pronoun. There are plenty of aesthetic redneck refinements.

I'd say way more machines and components are trashed from being dropped or knocked over, which is itself pretty rare. Another thing I just thought of that might be relevant: colder, drier places have way more static and this place is basically a sauna all year so that may be a factor as well.

SoCal is hot and windy in the fall. My dog shocked my current laptop off several times last year just by walking up to me while I was typing. (I've taken it back to HP multiple times, there's a wire loose somewhere inside so I don't take it anywhere anymore. It just sits in my studio with nothing important on it.) Windy means blackouts too and lessons on having adequate serge protection and power supplies.

Gosh, Total Warhammer 3 looks neat. Glad to see they're trying to innovate with the last hurrah. Seems to imply we might even get minor settlement maps, which would be fantastic. I can pull off way more crazy bullshit with _chokepoints_ than open fields with my garbage garrisons. Also the silhouette of Khorne is great.

Started RE8, which is bottlenecked super hard by this stopgap GPU. Got a weird pixel static effect going. Also, this thing runs _hot_, so I'm glad I got the ridiculously large cooler. Otherwise, game's pretty neat so far. Was mildly surprised when the prologue ended the way it did. Got annoyed at the forced loss in the first village trip, can't stand those, obvious in hindsight or not. Should either be a win condition if you're insane enough or so overwhelming you go down without much effective offense.

Game's visual storytelling is fantastic thus far tho. Was nice to just wander the village, figure out who these people were, how they lived, how it all went wrong, and how it went wrong. Dialogue is an hammy as ever, which is fine for an RE game. Characters are dumb as hell in these things, and that's part of the charm. Did have a nice moment a bit later, where the demo was set, where Ethan had knowledge of one of the notes I picked up, without need to verbally confirm it. Was slightly gratifying, after so much blunt exposition in other stuff.

Lady Mommyfempire isn't quite the ominous presence Mr. X was, which I suppose was the point. She's clearly meant to be _highly sexual_, as her fempire daughters are in a different way, to play into the thematic tones going on here.

That said, steampunk hobo metal wizard, the monkey doll in the village, and some other lines are making me think this is some dream sequence. But the fucked up Virgin Mary lady, the family dynamic she has with the 2 freaks, Lady Mommy, and Heisenberg, the crystal stuff being very similar to Zoe's DLC in RE7, I think I'm getting an inkling of how this plays out, but they've not blown their load yet.

Of course I'm expecting all this fun, creative stuff to go right out the window in the last stretch to bring in Neo-nu-blue-red-Umbrella and a virus/parasite for continuity, but hey. Did get a sensible chuckle that after squeezing through a secret tunnel into a hallway in the castle, there was a suit of armor _right there_. Cheeky callback.

Finally secured a PS5, I have no games but just having it while I wait for R&C, FF7RI etc. is a relief. Crazy world we live in!

I was deciding between RE8, or ME:L, since my work trip opened up some spending money, but not a whole lot. Figured I could do ME anytime, since I want ME:L mainly to compile all the content into one place, forever, and to get some nicer graphics, silly cinematic changes aside. So enjoy it on my behalf too, dammit!

Takes me about 30 minutes through some free site the IRS recommended. Mostly me speedreading lists of assets and deductions that do not apply to me, plugging in what I made, what I spent in making that, and then paying the filing fee to get my state return. Hardest part is figuring out what can be legally proven I earned in the last year from bank statements.

While I think the new defense quest battles thing is neat, I'm much more interested in seeing what the campaign changes are, especially to diplomacy. That will still take a bit until they release that info, but I really am looking forward to it.

The one change I'd like to see in battles is nerfing ranged builds somewhat (even if that nerfs my beloved Sisters of Avelorne cheap doomstack) and buffing infantry and cavalry. No sense having the awesome polar bear cavalry around, if I just can spam the Ice Guard, i.e. Sisters of Avelorne MK2.

I got lucky, a particular store was dropping them in different regions from 1am one night, I'm currently on some stuff to help me get to sleep so I didn't last longer than 2am. I had a quick look at 6:30am and by some miracle it just let me order one. Needless to say I was very happy.

The controller haptic stuff is very cool, shame the battery lasts about an hour when you're constantly utilising those features.

The village is only about a dozen little houses, though its _implied_ there's way more, the actual village you traverse is about 30 seconds, end to end, if there were no obstacles.

Once I killed Mommy and the fempires, that was it for the castle. The region for the next boss was a small home and basement, the entire content was being stripped of items and needing to do a puzzle, and then a rather scary monster chase sequence and a non-combat boss fight. Boss after that was slightly more involved, but still fundamentally a platforming puzzle over water, then a relatively tough boss fight. Was a cute moment after killing that boss where I could access a previously locked gate to a "laboratory," and it turned out to be just a pair of houses and some enemies guarding the magnum. The boss had been using the area to infect people with some parasite, and he's an idiot, so he called it his laboratory. Subverting my expectations!

That only leaves steampunk hobo metal wizard and the factory, then I can slot all the jars of my dismembered infant daughter's body parts into the ritual altar and access the end game. Still not sure _exactly_ what the fuck is going on, but it can't be far off unless they throw in a military base or real lab or something.

It's funny how a pandemic makes you try things you wouldn't have otherwise. I got into Final Fantasy XIV almost a year ago, I think it was mid or late June, and since then it's been a major part of my free-time. I have been playing catch-up for the better part of the year now, and as I understand it I am almost on the current and most recent content update. I've been taking my time, doing almost everything, which includes leveling up every class in the game. I can safely say that FFXIV has a tight grip on me.

Endwalker may be the first time I have ever been excited for an MMO expansion.

I wanted to share this, though. Part of Final Fantasy's playbook is having a famed soundtrack, and I can certainly vouch for XIV's original score. Part of my motivation in continuing the game is that I get to listen to another absolute winner of a song in a dungeon, or raid, or story content. XIV's composer, Masayoshi Soken is beloved by the fans for consistently delivering memorably and excellent work. The big convention for this game ended this morning, and as the XIV staff were wrapping it up Soken stepped forward to explain his personal hardships in the recent months. FFXIV's story is absolutely stellar, and at its highest moments it was an emotional roller coaster. Soken telling people he has been secretly working on the game while coping with cancer hit me emotionally as hard as the game did.

Pretty incredible of him to carry on with his music while going through chemo, Japan really has been producing some wonderful soundtracks recently. I've been playing with Nier Replicant Ver. 1.22 and I've been massively enjoying the OST done by Keiichi Okabe.

And now an overnight at the Joisey shore, in a slightly different location. Fun fact: I sleep on the floor, with only a thin futon mattress as cushioning. I do this by choice, and you do get used to it very quickly. Sleeping in beds on these work trips makes me oddly uncomfortable, despite being objectively more pleasant to roll around on (I toss and turn). Something to be said about your own bed.

Was expecting the swerve to be that Ethan still has Mold powers, was _not_ expecting to be that Ethan's fucking dead, and what we've called Ethan is a Mold _thing_. Then Chris taking over was a neat power fantasy moment. Cathartic to just pop heads without a concern for ammo or health. Was shocked to see his spec ops team actually survive, and be effective, which is a first for the series. Info dump in the "lab," still not totally clear on all the details and motivations and history of what happened here, but the idea that this all started because a little girl died of Spanish flu and her mother stumbled into the Mold nexus, and then later influenced Spencer, is darkly comedic.

Lot more I could say, need to do a second run, now that I see how the NG+ system works.

Been trying twice to get into the game, but the MMO grind at the low levels and the not-very-good starting storyline got to me both times. And the equipment looked pretty low-res on close inspection, which was a negative surprise. Now I try to stay away from all MMO's (including WoW and SWTOR), so I won't be doing this again. But happy that you like it.

In other news, there is a good chance that I'll be getting my first vaccine shot very soon. More on that in a few days. In other, much more terrible news, the brother of my best friend just died of COVID two days ago. He was intubated one week ago, so it wasn't exactly unexpected, but it really sucks. He was only two or three years older than I and a good friend as well. A man in the prime of his life, with a wife and two young children. Rest in peace, Martín.

well from what I understand Miranda's daughter died because of the spanish flue and then Miranda went to the mountains to commit sucide to be with said daughter and then discovered the mold nexus which apparently contains the memories and well person of everyone ever born in the village (which is seen in RE7 and later RE8 with Eviline which the Bakers still being part of the mold and can talk to Ethan despite being well dead) so she started her experiments to bring her daughter back which lead to her "children" we fight in the game and at some point she met and saved Spencer which lead to the Umbrealla Corporation, then because of Rose being born (because of her being born of the mold kind of makes her very special) she thought she had the perfect test subject to bring her daughter, but well Rose came back instead probably because of her power.

apparently the BSAA is now making their own bio weapons which is weird, maybe Wesker survived RE5 and is now back causing problems.
